Simon Maxwell

Special Counsel in our Parramatta office, Simon Maxwell specialises in Personal Injury Law, Media and Defamation Law and Commercial Disputes. He was admitted as a lawyer in 1992 and has more than 30 years’ experience.  He is a NSW Law Society Accredited Specialist in Personal Injury Law.

Simon has worked on many high profile cases that have progressed through the Courts, including matters that have been heard in the High Court of Australia. He has run cases against insurers where settlements or verdicts that total several hundreds of thousands of dollars have been achieved.. He has experience in all types of compensation claims, working on motor vehicle claims, slip and fall cases, medical negligence claims, intentional tort (such as assault) cases, workers compensation and work-injury damages claims, false arrest and malicious prosecution cases, and product liability actions.  He has also acted in several historic child and sexual abuse cases against institutional organisations such as churches and schools.

Outside of injury compensation, Simon has a specific interest in defamation law and has acted in numerous cases against most of the major media companies in Australia. He has briefed some of the most experienced defamation barristers in Sydney to work on complex claims.

Simon has also worked on numerous commercial litigation disputes, ranging from Local Court debt recovery matters, to District Court contract disputes, through to Supreme Court Equity proceedings.  He also has a wide experience in criminal matters and has appeared or acted in matters ranging from Local Court drink-driving pleas up to Supreme Court murder and drug trials.

Simon has been accredited as a specialist in Personal Injury Law since 2016.
